Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of the most iconic series of the 1990s, is preparing for a comeback on television. The leading actress of the original series, Sarah Michelle Gellar, shared a post on the social media platform Instagram, showing that they are in the middle of a reading rehearsal.
In the photos shared by Sarah Michelle Gellar on her Instagram account, fans spotted a name card labeled “Sarah Michelle Gellar Prinze/Buffy Summers,” a script, and a Buffy action figure. Additionally, the title of the new series was covered with a black strip, keeping it a secret for now.
The creative team behind the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot includes some notable names. Oscar-winning Nomadland director Chloé Zhao, a longtime fan of the original series, is set to direct the pilot episode. The script is being written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, best known for Poker Face.
In a recent interview, Sarah Michelle Gellar said, “We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.” She added, “One of the surprising aspects of Buffy is that it’s always been a crossover series. We’re trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.”
