Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the True Detective phenomenon, is developing a new series for Netflix. Currently titled The Brothers Project, the series will star Matthew McConaughey, known for his iconic portrayal of Detective Rust Cohle in the first season of True Detective.
The series, where Pizzolatto and McConaughey will collaborate once again, also brings in Yellowstone star Cole Hauser, while Skydance Sports is on board as the producer.
There was reportedly a strong competition among platforms to secure the rights, with Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Netflix all showing interest. Netflix ultimately secured the deal, while HBO, the home of True Detective, chose not to participate.

Although details about the plot remain under wraps, it is said that McConaughey and Hauser will play two brothers. The brothers’ backstories or the overall narrative have also not yet been revealed.
McConaughey last appeared in Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen and has kept a relatively low profile since. Now, he is preparing a return to the big screen with new projects, including Kevin McKay’s The Lost Bus.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway for Nicolas Cage to lead True Detective Season 5. If a deal is reached, Cage will play a character named “Henry Logan”.
