HBO’s hit anthology series True Detective is returning with Season 5, and Nicolas Cage is in talks to take on the leading role.
Created by Nic Pizzolatto, the series first premiered in 2014 and returned last year with True Detective: Night Country, starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. That season took audiences to Alaska for a chilling mystery set against the frozen wilderness.
Now, discussions are underway for Cage to star in the upcoming installment. If a deal is reached, he would play a character named Henry Logan. True Detective Season 5 is expected to be set in New York, with the story centered around the Jamaica Bay area.
Showrunner Issa López, who took over the series last season, will return to write and lead True Detective Season 5. Speaking to the New York Post in December, López said:
“There’s going to be some important connections between everything that happens in Ennis, Alaska, and the characters in Ennis, Alaska, and what happens in the new [season]. That said, it’s a new story, new characters, everything.”

Cage’s involvement has not yet been confirmed, as he’s also set to star in Prime Video’s upcoming live-action Spider-Noir series.
