Netflix has signed a multi-year exclusive first-look deal with Warner Music Group to develop music-focused documentaries.
The projects will be produced by US-based company Unigram.
No specific titles have been announced yet, but the deal covers WMG’s extensive and high-profile roster of artists. This includes major contemporary names such as Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Charli XCX and Coldplay. Legendary acts like Madonna, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac are also part of the catalogue. The deal may also involve estates of deceased artists such as David Bowie.
WMG and Unigram will collaborate directly with artists and their estates to develop the projects. Netflix has previously worked with WMG talent on projects like One Shot with Ed Sheeran.
The platform is increasingly investing in music content, particularly live performances, including concerts from Harry Styles and BTS. However, its music competition series Star Search did not perform strongly in global rankings.
WMG CEO Robert Kyncl highlighted the partnership as a major opportunity to introduce artists to global audiences. The deal marks another step in Netflix’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in the music and documentary space.
