Acclaimed actress Karine Vanasse (Cardinal) has been cast to lead Death of a Diplomat produced by Blink49.

The high-stakes thriller series ix adapted from the debut novel by Iceland’s former First Lady, Eliza Reid.

Vanasse will portray Jane Shearer, an ambassador’s wife who delves into a web of corruption and betrayal after a prominent figure is poisoned at a remote Icelandic soirée.

The six-part drama is being produced by Blink49 Studios and Truenorth, with distribution rights already secured by Crave in Canada and Síminn in Iceland. Written and executive produced by Lynne Kamm, the series follows the massive success of the source novel, which was a bestseller in Iceland, Canada, and the U.S. prior to its TV adaptation.

“We are thrilled to have Karine Vanasse attached to the project as Jane Shearer,” said Carolyn Newman and Virginia Rankin, Death of a Diplomat executive producers. “Her talent and presence make her the perfect choice to lead this high-stakes, internationally thrilling story. With Lynne Kamm’s adaptation and our partners at Groupe Entourage and Crave, we’re excited to bring this series to life for audiences in Canada and around the world.”
