Global streaming giant Netflix has officially acquired the worldwide streaming rights to Nippon TV’s legendary, long-running Japanese variety series, Monday Late Show (Getsuyo kara Yofukashi).

Making its global debut on the platform today, the acquisition marks Netflix’s second major weekly entertainment partnership with the Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV, following the previous roll-out of Golden SixTONES. This strategic move highlights Netflix’s ongoing commitment to expanding its localized content network within the competitive Japanese market.

Currently in its 15th year on the air, broadcasting every Monday night at 22:00 in Japan, the Nippon TV series has cultivated a massive cult following by dissecting candid public street interviews regarding trending local topics across the country. According to the show’s producers, the true charm of the series lies in how it delightfully and humorously shatters conventional expectations of what Japanese people are like, shining a bright spotlight on ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary, unpredictable personalities.

This shift to international distribution comes as a direct response to years of passionate requests from overseas fans seeking official access to the program. Welcoming the series to its global lineup, Netflix Director of Content Rie Sawaoka emphasized that the show’s distinctive perspective, spontaneous humor, and unforgettable real-life characters make it a truly one-of-a-kind entertainment phenomenon that is bound to resonate with global audiences.
