Alan Ritchson is in negotiations to star in Sony Pictures’ feature adaptation of the hit video game Helldivers, with Justin Lin attached to direct.
Alan Ritchson could be heading from Reacher to the battlefield of Helldivers, as the actor is in talks to join Sony Pictures’ upcoming movie based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ video game franchise.
Justin Lin remains attached to direct the feature, following Jason Momoa’s departure from the project. If the deal is completed, Ritchson is expected to play one of the elite Helldivers, with further casting details yet to be revealed.
Helldivers Heads to the Big Screen
Sony is keeping the film’s storyline under wraps for now. The movie is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on November 10, 2027.
The franchise launched in 2015 as a cooperative shooter, placing players in the role of soldiers defending Super Earth against hostile forces across the galaxy. Its sequel, Helldivers 2, became a major commercial success following its 2024 release, selling more than 12 million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC within its first four months. The game has since expanded to Xbox.
Sony and PlayStation Productions Reunite
Hutch Parker is producing the film alongside Asad Qizilbash of PlayStation Productions, with Lin producing through his Perfect Storm Entertainment.
The Helldivers adaptation continues the collaboration between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, whose previous projects include Uncharted, Twisted Metal and HBO’s The Last of Us.
Ritchson currently stars in Prime Video’s Reacher, which recently returned for its fourth season.
