Beta Film’s Empathy was the biggest winner at this year’s Prix Gémeaux, taking home 14 awards at the ceremony held at Montreal’s Place des Arts on September 21. The French-language Canadian television awards, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, recognize achievements across the country’s French-language television industry.
Best Drama Series Among 14 Wins
Produced by Trio Orange as a Crave and Canal+ Original, Empathy won Best Drama Series as well as the Audience Award and the award for Most Successful Production Abroad.
Creator and star Florence Longpré received two acting and writing honors, winning Best Screenplay and Best Actress in a Leading Role. Guillaume Lonergan was named Best Director, while Brigitte Lafleur and Benoît Brière received the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
The series also picked up awards for Best Costume, Best Casting, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Music and Best Cinematography.
From Series Mania to International Success
Empathy follows patients and medical staff at a secure psychiatric institute, combining drama with an unconventional, sensitive look at life inside the facility.
The series premiered at Series Mania in 2025, where it won the Audience Award and received a 13-minute standing ovation. It later won Best Series at the Venice TV Awards and received nominations at the Rose d’Or Awards and the C21 International Drama Awards.
The series was also among Crave’s most successful programs in Canada in 2025 and has reached audiences in France and English-speaking Canada. Beta Film handles international distribution for the series.
