Netflix has officially greenlit the drama series Lovesick, starring Emmy-winning actress Claire Danes in a role set to breathe new life into the medical drama genre.
Created by Sarah Treem, best known for her work on The Affair, this series is an adaptation of an original Israeli production from Keshet 12. The narrative centers on Annika, a world-renowned breast cancer surgeon who finds her life radically transformed when she receives her own cancer diagnosis.
The heart of the story explores her complex journey as she navigates her new reality while becoming deeply intertwined with a new patient of her own.
This project marks a long-awaited collaboration between Treem and Claire Danes, who have been searching for the perfect vehicle to work on together for years. Treem, who will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer, describes the character of Annika as a creative blend of both her and Danes’ artistic aspirations.
Produced in partnership with Universal Television and Keshet Studios, the series also features a veteran production team including Avi Nir and Keren Shahar. This marks Claire Danes’ second significant venture with Netflix, following her psychological thriller The Beast in Me, and promises a poignant, multi-layered exploration of resilience, expertise, and human connection.
