‘Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory’ Reimagined for a New Generation

Netflix is set to expand its Roald Dahl universe with the newly announced animated feature, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory.

Offering a bold and modern twist on the classic lore, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory is set in contemporary London and introduces a brand-new lead character, Charlie Paley, voiced by the talented Kit Connor.

In this reimagined adventure, Oscar winner Taika Waititi lends his voice to a legendary Willy Wonka who is returning to his factory after serving time in prison, his crime being the infamous incident of turning a child into a giant blueberry.

The plot follows a group of “rotten” teenagers, led by Charlie, who are facing eviction and plot a high-stakes heist to break into Wonka’s factory and steal a priceless chocolate bar to save their homes. Directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, the film boasts a powerhouse creative team, with animation handled by the Academy Award-winning Sony Pictures Imageworks, the studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Produced by Aron Warner and Timothy Yoo, this “deliciously unhinged” take on the Wonka legacy is scheduled to stream globally on Netflix in 2027.
