Zach Cregger and Zach Shields are set to write the prequel screenplay for the critically acclaimed horror film Weapons.
Weapons prequel’s working title has been announced as Gladys. Cregger, along with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment, will return as producers. Amy Madigan, who played the main antagonist Aunt Gladys in the original film, earned both an Academy Award and a SAG Award for her role.
Shields most recently worked on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire for Warner Bros. and Legendary, and previously co-wrote Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Krampus. He is also active in television, serving as co-executive producer on Apple’s Lady in the Lake and as a consulting producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Cregger’s adaptation of the Resident Evil video game is scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.
The prequel will focus on the backstory of the character Gladys and is intended to stand as an independent story.
