Netflix has officially begun production on This Summer Will Be Different, a 10-episode romantic drama adapted from Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel of the same name.
Filming is currently underway in Prince Edward Island and Toronto, bringing the story’s iconic Canadian backdrop to life.
This Summer Will Be Different stars Sophie Nélisse, Roby Attal, and Francesca Reale, and follows a young woman whose life is complicated when she falls in love with her best friend’s brother. Spanning several summers, the story explores love, friendship, and the choices that shape adulthood.
Created by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, the adaptation features episodes directed by Karen Maine, Jasmin Mozaffari, and Fab Filippo.
Author Carley Fortune shared her excitement about seeing the novel adapted for Netflix, describing Prince Edward Island as the emotional heart of the story and crediting the island’s landscape, its people, and the friendships formed there as the inspiration behind the book.
Netflix Canada also praised the project, calling it a celebration of both Toronto and Prince Edward Island, while highlighting the series as a heartfelt tribute to the locations that define the story. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
