According to data from Ampere Analysis, 52% of Netflix’s original TV releases in 2025 were produced in languages other than English.

This marks the first time non-English titles have formed the majority, up from 49% in 2024.

Spanish remains the leading non-English language, accounting for 21% of new originals. The genre mix shifted significantly, with scripted content rising from 63% to 86% of Spanish-language titles, while comedy saw the fastest growth, increasing from 6% to 19%.

Korean-language originals recorded the strongest gains, climbing from 12% to 20% of non-English releases, driven by titles such as Squid Game season three and When Life Gives You Tangerines, alongside returning unscripted series including Getaway, Go With Jangdobari, and Screwballs.

Japanese originals declined from 6% to 4%; however, Japan continues to play a significant role in Netflix’s acquisitions, representing 20% of all acquired seasons on the platform.

Despite the shift in volume, English-language productions still account for the largest share of overall content spend. According to Ampere, surpassing the 50% threshold underscores how global and local content strategies have become central to Netflix’s growth. Non-English titles that travel successfully beyond their home markets- such as Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, and Cassandra– are also delivering stronger returns on investment for the platform.
