Turkish broadcaster Atv’s new period drama Love and Throne is set to come to an early end, with the Bozdağ Film production scheduled to conclude with its fifth episode. The decision was reportedly made after the series’ latest ratings failed to meet expectations.
Starring Akın Akınözü, the historical drama only premiered on September 9, 2026. Set against the world of the Anatolian Seljuks, the series follows Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat’s journey from imprisonment to the throne, combining romance with political rivalries, palace intrigue and struggles for power.
Why is Love and Throne ending?
The first five episodes had already been filmed before a final decision was made about the show’s future. Following the broadcast of episode three on September 23, production was reportedly paused for three days while the team waited for the latest ratings results.
With those figures once again falling short of expectations, a decision was made not to continue the series beyond the episodes already produced. Love and Throne will therefore end with episode five, bringing its run to a close only a few weeks after its launch.
The show’s official Atv page currently lists its third episode, which aired on September 23, while a trailer for episode four, scheduled for September 30, has also been released.
What is Love and Throne about?
Love and Throne centres on Alaeddin Keykubat, who spends eight years imprisoned before finding himself on a path towards the Seljuk throne. His rise to power is complicated by political rivalries, betrayals and his reunion with Destina, the Princess of Alanya, whose life had previously crossed with his own.
Alongside Akın Akınözü, the series stars Merjem Šiljak and Simay Barlas, with a supporting cast that includes Ayça Bingöl, Cem Bender, Halil İbrahim Ceyhan, Ferit Kaya, Ceren Benderlioğlu, Murat Serezli and Ece Yüksel. The Bozdağ Film production is produced by Mehmet Bozdağ, with Yağmur Taylan, Durul Taylan and Cem Toluay among its directors.
Launched as one of Atv’s major period productions for the new season, Love and Throne will now conclude after a notably short five episode run.
