Netflix is bringing Little House on the Prairie back to the screen with a new adaptation set to premiere in 2026.
Based on the beloved Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the series will blend family drama, frontier survival, and an origin story of the American West, offering a contemporary take on the semi-autobiographical novels that have captivated readers for generations.
The new Little House on the Prairie series is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, who has described the project as both a personal passion and a fresh reimagining for today’s audiences.
At the heart of the story is the Ingalls family. Alice Halsey stars as the spirited and strong-willed Laura Ingalls, alongside Luke Bracey as her optimistic father Charles (“Pa”) and Crosby Fitzgerald as her resilient mother Caroline (“Ma”). Skywalker Hughes plays Laura’s older sister Mary.
The ensemble cast also includes Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann, Warren Christie as Civil War veteran John Edwards, Meegwun Fairbrother as Mitchell, and Alyssa Wapanatǎhk as White Sun.
Production is currently underway in Canada. The original television adaptation, which aired on NBC from 1974 to 1984, was produced by Ed Friendly and became a cultural touchstone. Since their publication in the 1930s, the Little House books have sold more than 73 million copies worldwide and have been translated into dozens of languages.
Netflix describes Little House on the Prairie as a modern adaptation that carries forward the timeless themes of hope, resilience, and optimism for a new generation.
