Netflix is bringing a new family drama to its slate with Ladies of the House, a series from Sweet Magnolias showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson and star JoAnna Garcia Swisher.
Based on Lauren Edmondson’s novel of the same name, the series will follow three women navigating family tensions, relationships and the future of a family-owned winery after its charismatic owner dies unexpectedly.
From Sweet Magnolias to a New Family Story
The project reunites Anderson and Garcia Swisher, who previously worked together on Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias. Anderson will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Garcia Swisher will executive produce alongside Kate Gordon through their production company, Rolling Clover.
The story centers on a wife and her two adult daughters as they struggle to keep their winery and family together in the aftermath of an unexpected loss. Their personal relationships, extended family and the future of the business all become intertwined as they attempt to navigate the changes ahead.

Ladies of the House is adapted from Edmondson’s novel, which focuses on the complicated relationships between three women at the heart of the Richardson family.
Anderson said she immediately saw the potential for a series exploring family, friendship and romance when Garcia Swisher introduced her to the book. Garcia Swisher, meanwhile, described the Richardson women as the central reason she wanted to bring the story to the screen.
Black Label Media, known for films including La La Land and Sicario, is also attached as an executive producer.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Ladies of the House.
