Fifth Season is bringing Honey, a new drama set within the world of Killing Eve, to MIPCOM Cannes for its world premiere.
The BBC and ZDF co-production will screen during MIPCOM on Monday at 6 p.m. CET, followed by a Q&A with creator Emma Moran, lead actor Ann Skelly, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle and Fifth Season EVP Jennifer Ebell.
What Is Honey About?
Set in East Berlin in 1982, Honey follows Martha, an undercover MI6 operative working deep behind the Iron Curtain. Her assignment places her in the middle of a dangerous counterespionage network, but her professional mission becomes complicated when she develops feelings that lead to an unexpected love triangle.
Ann Skelly leads the cast as Martha, alongside Nate Mann, Jannis Niewöhner and Rory Kinnear.
The series is also being positioned as an origin story for Carolyn Martens, the intelligence operative played by Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve. The connection has not yet been formally announced by the BBC and ZDF, although the project was previously reported as exploring Carolyn’s early life.
Who Is Behind the Killing Eve Prequel?
Emma Moran and Emme Hoy wrote the series, with Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill directing. Christopher Hall serves as producer, while Moran, Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris executive produce.
Honey is part of the BBC and ZDF’s ongoing production partnership, which also includes series such as A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
The MIPCOM premiere puts the series among the high-profile international dramas being presented at this year’s market, with Fifth Season handling global sales.
