Globo will present its new telenovela Queen of Myself at MIP Africa 2025, marking the project’s international launch. Written by Rosane Svartman (Never Give Up, Total Dreamer) and directed by Allan Fiterman, the story follows Leona (Clara Moneke), whose life is transformed when she becomes the nanny to seven-year-old Sofia (Elis Cabral).
As part of its showcase at the event, Globo will present Queen of Myself along with other exclusive premieres, telenovelas, series, documentaries, and formats. For the second consecutive year, the company is partnering with Côte Ouest, part of Mediawan Africa, celebrating a collaboration that spans more than 25 years. On September 2, at the Onyx Hotel, Globo will also host a special lunch to highlight its key titles and reinforce its presence in the region.
“Globo’s presence at MIP Africa highlights our commitment to the African continent, where we have built a strong track record. We want to broaden the reach of our stories and strengthen our connection with audiences. Titles like Queen of Myself and the new version of Anything Goes showcase the strength of our storytelling and its ability to resonate with different realities and cultures around the world,” said Rodrigo Nascimento, Head of International Sales – EMEA of Globo.
Côte Ouest, Globo’s long-time distribution partner, is responsible for bringing these titles across Africa and beyond.“Just as Côte Ouest believed 25 years ago in the potential of Globo’s content, which serves as a bridge between the peoples of Africa and Brazil, Côte Ouest will continue to add value to the content produced by Globo. By making them accessible to all audiences in Africa through dubbing these titles into both English and French, before offering them on various markets, Côte Ouest will use its expertise to ensure that these incredible stories reach African and European markets,” said Jonathan Lett, Managing Director of Côte Ouest.

About Queen of Myself:
Happiness always finds a way and arrives when you least expect it. That’s the message behind Queen of Myself. The story follows Leona (Clara Moneke), whose life is transformed by her relationship with Sofia (Elis Cabral), a seven-year-old girl for whom she becomes a nanny. Sofia is a child who lost her mother as a baby and grew up feeling lonely in the home of her father, Abel (Tony Ramos). Surrounded by adults, she finds in Leo the role model she needed. In this work by Rosane Svartman, with artistic direction by Allan Fiterman, the meeting between the two marks the beginning of a journey filled with affection, care, companionship, and human connection.

“The title has a direct connection to the idea of trying to take control of our own lives, which relates to self-love and self-care, especially in a fast-paced society with daily violence. Being ‘Queen of Myself’ also means seeking some kind of meaning in this journey, because sometimes we just keep going without understanding where we’re headed. The story also explores motherhood in a multifaceted way, in its various forms and configurations, addressing different possibilities of what it means to be a mother, including the choice not to be, and the direct impact that has on the lives of the women in the story,” explains Rosane Svartman.
“The telenovelas has several parallel worlds, but the main one is the connection between this woman and this child. The transformation in Leo and Sofia’s relationship is the core of the story. We’re creating a light-hearted telenovela full of meaning. Rosane is an author with deep understanding of dramaturgy and great skill in building this story we’ll bring to the screen, with all the ingredients people expect to see: romance, lightness, and lots of emotion,” says artistic director Allan Fiterman.
