Globo used its MIPCOM 2026 showcase in Cannes on October 11 to announce a series of international agreements spanning finished programming, scripted formats and strategic production partnerships. The announcements included the first-ever BBC acquisition of a Globoplay Original series, new adaptations of Brazilian dramas in Portugal, Türkiye and Greece, and a first look at the upcoming sequel to Brazil Avenue.
Hosted by TV Globo journalist Cecília Malan, the event featured Angela Colla, Globo’s Head of International Business, and Rodrigo Nascimento, Head of Business Development for EMEA. The presentation highlighted the company’s international catalogue and its strategy of expanding Brazilian stories through local adaptations and partnerships.
Globoplay originals and a milestone BBC deal
The showcase opened with Globo’s Super Dramas slate, featuring Anything Goes, a remake of a classic Brazilian telenovela, and Three Graces, which the company described as its most-discussed production in social media history. The presentation also highlighted To Love Is To Care, a major production currently airing in Brazilian prime time.
“The stories that break through are not always the loudest. They are the ones that become relevant in people’s lives. And that is what we want to talk about tonight: not just the stories themselves, but what makes them resonate so deeply that they continue touching the public way beyond the screen”, commented Angela.
“A plot can bring you into a story. But aspects such as strong characters, emotional investment, aspirational and authentic journeys, contemporary tensions, real moral dilemmas and complex relationships are what keep you there. They drive conversations”, added the executive.
The company also presented its Globoplay Original series across a range of genres, including The Playoffs, Emergency 53 and Blood Red – Under the Moonlight. Angela highlighted the platform’s approach to serving different audience interests while maintaining consistent storytelling and production standards.
“We believe scale is not only about reaching everyone with the same story. It is also about understanding different audience needs and creating stories that speak directly to them. That is where our streaming platform Globoplay and its original series play a fundamental role. They explore distinct genres and viewers expectations, while applying the same storytelling expertise and production quality behind every project, no matter if it’s a thriller, a drama, a comedy or a true crime story”, explained Angela.
A key announcement was the BBC’s acquisition of the first season of Blood Red – Under the Moonlight for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three in the UK. The deal marks the first time a Globoplay Original series has been licensed to the BBC.
“The BBC acquisition is another example of how understanding audiences helps stories travel further. And helping our partners find that audience connection is at the heart of what we do. And our work does not stop when the finished content is delivered. Together, we follow performance, share insights and work with partners to unlock each title’s full potential, from launch strategy to audience engagement”, stated Angela.
Globo also noted that it will receive the 2026 MIPCOM Recognition for SDG Impact award on October 14. Presented in partnership with the United Nations, the award recognises the impact of the company’s productions on social causes.

Brazilian formats find new audiences in Europe and Türkiye
International adaptations formed another major part of the presentation, with announcements covering Portugal, Türkiye and Greece.
In Portugal, Globo is extending its longstanding partnership with SIC. Following the success of the Portuguese adaptation of Pages of Life, the broadcaster is developing a local version of Brazil Avenue. SIC’s Director of TV Business, Vanessa Tierno, joined Rodrigo on stage to mark the next phase of the collaboration.
“A successful adaptation is not about recreating every detail. It is about identifying the emotional truths that made a story resonate in a specific territory, and reimagining them for a new audience and culture. That is why the strongest formats continue to travel. Not because they stay the same, but because they remain meaningful wherever they go”, commented Rodrigo.
In Türkiye, Globo and Ay Yapım renewed their partnership with The Life She Built, an adaptation of the telenovela Looks and Essence directed by Hilal Saral. Ay Yapım CEO Kerem Çatay joined the announcement, which reinforces the companies’ ongoing collaboration in bringing Brazilian stories to international audiences.
The renewal follows the international performance of Leyla, the Turkish adaptation of Brazil Avenue, which has been sold to more than 100 countries and received an International Emmy nomination.
In Greece, Globo and Alpha TV are developing local versions of two Brazilian dramas. The partners are moving forward with an adaptation of The Others, whose first international version is already in production at Primavisione. They are also developing an adaptation of All the Flowers, which will be produced by Primavisione and broadcast by Alpha TV.
The agreements reflect Globo’s continued focus on working with local broadcasters and production companies to adapt its scripted catalogue for different markets.
The event concluded with an update on Brazil Avenue 2, the sequel to one of Globo’s most internationally successful telenovelas. Already announced to the market, the production is scheduled to premiere in Brazil in January 2027.
“I truly believe a story matters when people recognize something of themselves in it. And when that connection is real, it doesn’t stop when the episode ends. It grows across episodes, platforms, communities, countries and generations, becoming part of people’s lives”, concluded Angela.
