Following the massive success of its debut run, the BBC has officially ordered a second season of Fremantle’s acclaimed thriller Nightsleeper, which will debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Originally premiering in September 2024, the first season attracted 8.5 million viewers, securing its title as the BBC’s most successful new drama launch of that year. The show also achieved an impressive global reach, selling into 176 territories worldwide.

For the upcoming chapter, the high-stakes narrative shifts from rails to waves. While the inaugural season centered on a sleeper train journeying from Glasgow to London, the second season will unfold aboard a passenger ferry navigating the Irish Sea from Belfast to Liverpoolç

Writer Nick Leather says: “It’s so exciting to set sail on season two! The passengers and crew on tonight’s Belfast to Liverpool passenger ferry are about to experience six hours of non-stop thrills and spills, secrets and lies, triumphs and tragedies. None of them are quite as they seem. Nothing in their lives will ever be the same again. Not all of them will make it to the other side. The new Nightsleeper is going to be more nightsleepery than ever…”

The series is once again penned by BAFTA and RTS award-winner Nick Leather and produced by Fremantle-backed Element Pictures, with Fremantle handling global distribution. Furthermore, the production is proudly supported by Northern Ireland Screen, showcasing Northern Ireland’s world-class crew, local filming locations, and creative talent to audiences around the globe.
