Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2, Desperate Housewives) is set to portray the famed Danish author in Fairytale Detective, a new crime drama created by Brendan Foley and produced by Omega Global Media.
Each hour-long episode follows Andersen as he solves crimes in 1850s Copenhagen with the help of characters from his own stories, who come to life to guide him toward justice. At the same time, he hopes to win the heart of Jenny Lind, the love of his life.
The show is part of Omega Global Media’s Mipcom lineup, which also features Canadian drama Something Undone, South African thriller The History of Blood, FBI-focused Bombay Noir, and the New Zealand dark comedy Our Father.
Scott and Foley previously worked together on CW’s Sherlock and Daughter, created by Foley, with Scott starring as Professor Moriarty. In Fairytale Detective, both will serve as executive producers. Meanwhile, Scott will also star in ITVX’s The Hack, Channel 4’s Summerwater, and the BBC’s Crookhaven.

“I’m very much looking forward to collaborating with Brendan Foley on ‘Fairytale Detective,” Scott said in a statement. “He has given us a unique and exciting insight into the world of Hans Christian Andersen which is funny, surprising and incredibly moving. Hans Christian Anderson is a tragic/comic figure, possibly on the autism spectrum, whose only emotional outlet is through his fictional characters — he is his characters. Solving crimes gives him the same validation as his storytelling and a chance to understand and connect with the world around him. To explore those aspects of his life and character throughout the course of a series is incredibly exciting to me and we hope will be revelatory to an audience.”
Omega Global Media managing director Danny Goldman will present new materials for Fairytale Detective at Mipcom in October.
