Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware, is one of the most popular games of the last few years. Elden Ring’s universe was co-created by the author of the Game of Thrones series, George R. R. Martin, and is directed by Japanese game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki. The award-winning game, released in 2022, takes place in a dark fantasy world and offers players a long-lasting adventure with its open world.
Based on the latest news, arthouse film company A24 is preparing to adapt Elden Ring for the big screen. The adaptation of the game, which broke records by selling over 28 million copies worldwide, has officially entered the development stage.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Alex Garland is in talks to direct the film. Also known as a writer, Alex Garland is famous for films such as Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and Civil War. On the other hand, Alex Garland also wrote the screenplay for 28 Years Later, one of the most anticipated releases of 2025, and reunited with Danny Boyle for this film.
It is known that the game’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, is also enthusiastic about adapting Elden Ring for the big screen. In an earlier interview with The Guardian, Hidetaka Miyazaki said:
“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie, for example. But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play.”
That said, whether George R. R. Martin will be involved in the project is also a matter of great curiosity. However, as the movie is still in the early stages of development, nothing has been finalized yet.
