Award-winning director Ferit Karahan’s new film Djinn Wedding, which he wrote and directed, has been selected for the Main Competition section of the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious cinematic events.
Following the national and international success of Brother’s Keeper, Karahan’s highly anticipated new feature will have its world premiere in Toronto.
Featuring a strong production partnership and an ensemble cast of some of Turkish cinema’s most acclaimed actors, Djinn Wedding will continue its international festival journey after Toronto by screening at other major festivals. Further announcements regarding the film’s festival schedule and theatrical release are expected in the coming days.
Djinn Wedding follows the story of four siblings who reunite years later in a remote Anatolian village for their sister’s wedding. As the wedding preparations unfold, long-buried memories and family secrets passed down through generations gradually come to light. Forced to confront their past, the siblings find themselves entangled in a difficult reckoning shaped by guilt and the invisible bonds inherited across generations.
Star-Studded Cast
The film stars Demet Özdemir, Kaan Yıldırım, İlhan Şen, Helin Kandemir, and Sarp Bozkurt in the leading roles. The cast also includes Evliya Aykan, Tuba Ünsal, Baki Davrak, Erol Babaoğlu, Kubilay Çamlıdağ, Mine Çayıroğlu, Hakan Salınmış, Barış Hacıhan, Gürhan Altundaşar, Deniz Barut, and Hasibe Eren.
Supported by the General Directorate of Cinema of the Republic of Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Djinn Wedding is a co-production between Ferit Karahan Films, Arya Yapım, Royal Pictures, and Maya Films. International sales are handled by the French company LUXBOX.
The film is produced by Ferit Karahan, Kanat Doğramacı, Berkin Kaya, and Gülistan Acet Karahan. Serdar Özdemir serves as director of photography, while Selin Girgin is the production designer. The film was edited by Ferit Karahan alongside Marco Spoletini, Ahmet Boyacıoğlu, Yusuf Ziya Kaya, and Mustafa Umut Ay.

Ferit Karahan’s debut feature, The Fall from Heaven, won the Best Film Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and the Best First Film Award at the Ankara Film Festival.
His second feature, Brother’s Keeper, had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI Award. The film also won Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. In addition, it screened at more than 200 festivals worldwide, received over 40 international awards, and was released theatrically in numerous countries, including the United States, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, and Mexico.
