Godzilla Minus One, the latest edition in Toho’s monster franchise and the closing film of this year’s Tokyo Film Festival, has secured a deal for UK and Irish distribution.

Glasgow-based distribution company Anime Limited will release the film in UK and Irish cinemas on December 15th. The wide release will also include IMAX and 4DX screens, according to Deadline.

Godzilla Minus One was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the producer of Lupin III.

In addition to writing and directing, Yamazaki also supervised the visual effects. The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando and Kuranosuke Sasaki.

The film, which comes 70 years after the first movie, will be released locally by Toho on November 3.
The plot of the movie is as follows: After the war, Japan is reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and drags the country into a negative situation. Against the most desperate situation in Japan’s history, how and with whom will Japan resist?

Yamazaki: Director of Lupin III

Takashi Yamazaki’s previous films include Parasyte (2014), Fueled: The Man They Called Pirate (2016), The Great War of Archimedes (2019), Dragon Quest: Your Story (2019), Lupin III: The First (2019) and Stand by Me Doraemon 2 (2020). He made his directorial debut in 2000 with Juvenile.

Anime Limited was founded in 2012 and specializes in the distribution of anime films. The company previously distributed Cowboy Bebop (Shinichiro Watanabe) Perfect Blue (Satoshi Kon), Your Name (Makoto Shinkai) and Patema Inverted (Yasuhiro Yoshiura).

Godzilla Minus One will close the Tokyo Film Festival in November.
