Channel 5’s crime hit Ellis has officially been renewed for a second season following its successful 2024 launch.
The broadcaster has released a first teaser, though an exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
Season 2 will consist of three standalone, two-hour episodes, continuing the series’ feature-length crime format.
Sharon D Clarke reprises her role as DCI Ellis, a formidable senior detective brought in to rescue failing investigations across the UK. Clarke’s performance in the first season was widely praised by viewers and critics alike, with many drawing comparisons to ITV’s long-running crime drama Vera for its strong central detective and atmospheric storytelling.
In the series, Ellis is dispatched to troubled cases where local police have hit a wall. Armed with sharp instincts and a calm but commanding presence, she works to untangle layered secrets, expose buried truths and deliver justice in communities shaken by violent crime.
Andrew Gower returns as DS Harper, Ellis’s loyal and capable partner, whose dynamic with the lead detective adds emotional depth to the investigations.
The drama was created by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre, with Paul Logue also attached to the project. Season 2 will air on Channel 5 in the UK and stream internationally on Acorn TV.
Acorn TV previously described the series as an “instant fan favorite,” highlighting its strong reception and critical acclaim.
