German factual entertainment format Cash or Trash is expanding its international footprint with a new Portuguese adaptation. Public broadcaster RTP has commissioned a local version of the format, titled Negócio Fechado.
The Portuguese edition will be hosted by Tânia Ribas de Oliveira and coproduced by Warner Bros International Television Production Spain and Spanish-Portuguese production company Coral Europa.
What is Cash or Trash About?
The format invites participants to bring in antiques, family heirlooms and unusual objects that could potentially be worth far more than expected. Experts first examine the items and reveal their histories and estimated values before their owners enter the Dealer Room, where buyers compete to secure them through a series of bids.
Originally developed by ZDF Studios, Cash or Trash is produced in Germany by Warner Bros. International Television Production Germany for ZDF. The upcoming RTP version will mark the format’s 12th international adaptation.
Where Else Has the Format Been Adapted?
The show has already travelled to several international markets, with local versions airing on broadcasters including the BBC in the UK, Puls 4 in Austria, Nova TV in Serbia and Croatia, and Discovery in Italy. Portugal now joins that growing list with Negócio Fechado.
