Bavaria Media and Beta Film have joined forces on Mozart Mozart, a bold and contemporary reimagining of the Mozart legacy. The six-hour drama centers on Maria Anna Mozart, the gifted sister of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who steps into his shoes as he begins to spiral, risking their family’s legacy.

From the showrunner of Sisi, Mozart Mozart is a fresh period drama created for ARD and ORF, set to a unique score that fuses Mozart’s iconic music with a modern twist. International sales are being handled by Bavaria Media and Beta Film.

Mozart Mozart stars Havana Joy (Love Sucks) as Maria Anna, with Eren M. Güvercin (Druck, Eldorado) as Wolfgang. The cast also includes Eidin Jalali (The Swarm, Maxton Hall), Verena Altenberger (Wild Republic), Peter Kurth (Babylon Berlin), Philipp Hochmair (Freud), Sonja Weißer (Maxton Hall), Lisa Vicari (Next Level), and Annabelle Mandeng (Vikings: Valhalla).

Andreas Gutzeit (Sisi, Dignity) serves as executive producer, showrunner and head-author. Together with Swantje Oppermann (Dignity), he wrote the scripts for the series. Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim (DruckThe Zweiflers) serves as director, Simon Dat Vu as director of photography, Jessica De Rooij (Sisi, Blood & Gold) is the composer. Jens Freels (Sisi, Dignity) joins Andreas Gutzeit as executive producer; Simona Weber serves as producer.

Helge Köhnen, Head of Content Sales, Bavaria Media:

Mozart Mozart is not a retelling of Amadeus’s well-known story — it offers a brand-new perspective on the Mozart mythos by shifting the spotlight to his sister, Maria Anna. Her story has never been told like this before. While visually stunning, the series also captivates with its unique approach to transforming Mozart’s music into an emotionally charged soundscape for modern audiences — framed by a narrative of self-expression, creative power, and the courage to defy convention. We’re confident that this fresh, fearless reinterpretation of the Mozart legacy will strike a powerful chord with audiences and buyers around the world. And above all, it is a long-overdue tribute to the brilliance of Maria Anna — finally giving her the stage she was always denied.”

Oliver Bachert, Chief Distribution Officer, Beta Film:

“We are excited and energized by the unique storyline of Mozart Mozart, which sheds light on the multi-layered relationship between the Mozart siblings, highlighting the brilliant and hidden gem of the Mozart legacy – Maria Anna. It’s a series like no other and we are confident this fresh take on the iconic IP will appeal to a wide international audience.”

Andreas Gutzeit, Creator / Showrunner, Story House Pictures:

“Mozart is a global brand that has been successful for 250 years. We will continue this legacy in a loud, exciting, and fun new way – diving into a story that audiences think they know. But once they meet our Maria Anna Mozart, they can’t help but falling in love with her, while she struggles to save the music, her brother and ultimately herself simply by realizing her own full potential. What could be more inspiring and empowering?“

Mozart/Mozart is produced by Story House Pictures in coproduction with ARD (WDR/SWR/ARD Degeto Film), ORF, and The Dreaming Sheep Company. Bavaria Media and Beta Film are handling international sales.
