The BBC has announced the release date for the first-ever television adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 classic novel Lord of the Flies.
The four-part limited series will premiere on Sunday, February 8 at 9pm on BBC One, with all episodes also available to stream the same day on BBC iPlayer.
The drama follows a group of schoolboys who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash, chronicling their struggle for survival as social order begins to collapse.
The series is adapted by Jack Thorne and directed by Marc Munden. All of the child actors appearing in the show are making their professional acting debuts with this production.
The score is composed by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve, who have created the theme music and original compositions specifically for the series.
Revisiting themes of authority, power, civilisation and chaos, Lord of the Flies offers a contemporary retelling of Golding’s enduring and unsettling story.
