ABC TV Japan is preparing to premiere Squall, a new scripted drama that brings together Japanese and Singaporean talent in a cross-border romance shaped by lost memories, unresolved relationships and female self-discovery.
The nine-episode series, with episodes running 30 minutes, was filmed on location in Singapore and is set to premiere on October 18, 2026.
What Is ABC TV Japan’s Squall About?
The story follows Sakura, who moves from Japan to Singapore with her fiancé Eita. During a sudden squall, she takes shelter in a back alley and meets Lun, a local painter. Although they have never met—or so Sakura believes—she feels an immediate and unexplained connection to him.
Their encounter eventually reveals a shared past. Four years earlier, an accident caused Sakura and Lun to lose their memories of a relationship they once had, sending them down separate paths.
As their forgotten history resurfaces, Sakura is forced to reconsider both her past with Lun and her relationship with Eita.
How Does Squall Explore Female Self-Discovery?
Rather than simply choosing between two relationships, Sakura’s journey ultimately becomes about defining her own life.
After confronting the truth about her past with Lun, she returns to Japan alone, determined not to be dependent on either man or reduced to a role in someone else’s story. One year later, she reunites with Eita on her own terms.
Who Stars in Squall?
Japanese actress Riko stars as Sakura, alongside Singaporean actor Glenn Yong as Lun and Kaname Yoshizawa as Eita. Regina Lim plays Lei, Lun’s partner.
Produced as a Japan-Singapore collaboration, Squall combines romance and memory-loss drama with Singapore’s locations and multicultural setting.
