Given since 1991, the Gotham Awards were presented last night at a ceremony in New York.

The Gotham Awards, presented for the 33rd time this year by the Gotham Film and Media Institute, have reached their winners. Yesterday, at a ceremony in New York City, the Best Feature award went to Past Lives.

The Gotham Awards are American film awards given annually to independent filmmakers in New York City and traditionally mark the unofficial start of Oscar season.

In the past, only films costing $35 million or less were eligible for the awards, which inevitably left out some of the biggest Oscar contenders in favor of smaller films. But that limit was lifted in 2023, allowing big productions like Barbie and Ferrari to get in on the action. A total of 20 films, 11 TV series and 30 performances were nominated for this year’s awards.

While many celebrities attended the ceremony, Robert de Niro claimed that his award speech was edited.

OUTSTANDING LEAD PERFORMANCE: LILY GLADSTONE

In Gotham, where gender categories have been removed from the acting awards since 2021, Outstanding Lead Performance award went to Lily Gladstone for her performance in The Unknown Country, while Outstanding Supporting Performance award went to Charles Melton for his performance in May December.
