Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the iconic series True Detective, has hinted at a potential new story in the franchise, with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reprising their iconic characters. While he has not yet started writing the project, Pizzolatto has said that the famous duo is “open to it.”

In the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, Pizzolatto shared that he has been developing a new story centered on Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. Pizzolatto said, “I actually have another story for Cohle and Hart that, who knows, maybe we’ll do it one day,” and added that he had discussions with the actors “about getting back together and doing it.” According to the director, the question is “whether that would ever happen or not.”

McConaughey and Harrelson have portrayed Detective Rust Cohle and Detective Marty Hart in the critically acclaimed first season of True Detective. The series has featured new stars in each season, becoming a classic for crime drama fans.

The creator, Pizzolatto, has led the first three seasons, receiving mixed reviews for the second season and a stronger third season. After his deal with HBO ended, Issa López took over for the fourth season, titled Night CountryNight Country aired on Max last year and became the most-watched season, with 12.7 million viewers per episode, passing Pizzolatto’s first season of True Detective, which reached 11.9 million.
