A new report from streaming guide JustWatch has revealed fresh insights into the Star Wars fandom, highlighting long-standing preferences ahead of the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu feature film.

The survey, which polled over 3,000 respondents globally, including nearly 1,000 in the United States, provides a detailed look at how the Star Wars audience views the franchise’s legacy and its future on streaming platforms.

  • The Original Trilogy Reigns Supreme: Across all polled markets, the Original Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI) remains the undisputed fan-favorite. In the U.S., it secured a massive 83% of the vote.
  • Prequels Outpace Sequels: While the Original Trilogy leads, the Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I-III) consistently ranks higher than the most recent Sequel Trilogy (Episodes VII-IX) among fans. Notably, U.S. respondents under 35 showed a stronger preference for the Prequels (nearly 30%) compared to those over 35 (9%).
  • Top TV Shows: The Mandalorian and Andor stand out as the most beloved series in the Star Wars universe. In the U.S., The Mandalorian narrowly holds the top spot, bolstered by strong support from women (61%), while Andor enjoys significant popularity among men under 35 (51%)
  • The Most Wanted Spin-Off: Fans have spoken regarding which character deserves their own origin story: Chewbacca emerged as the #1 choice for a new lead role, followed by Yoda and Lando Calrissian.
