UK-based production company Nova Mundi Studios is working to adapt author Glenda Young’s Helen Dexter murder mystery novels for television.

The project is being developed based on the first book in the series, Murder at the Seaview Hotel.

Set in the seaside town of Scarborough in northern England, the series will follow a cosy-crime format. The story centers on hotel owner Helen Dexter, who unexpectedly finds herself stepping into the role of an amateur detective as she begins solving a string of unusual murders unfolding around her community.

The project is being developed alongside producer Mike Noble, known for his work on Brassic. The series is currently being shopped to broadcasters and no casting details have been announced yet.

If commissioned, the production team hopes to expand the project into a long-running series drawing from the remaining three novels in the Helen Dexter book collection. Executive producer Marc de Launay says the show aims to showcase the talent and distinctive character of north-east England on screen.
