Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos vowed to maintain theatrical releases of Warner Bros. movies.
Ted Sarandos spoke at a Canal+ Group event in Paris about the platform’s potential acquisition of Warner Bros. The co-CEO emphasized that if the deal proceeds, Netflix will be able to release films in cinemas, a capability the platform previously lacked on a large scale. He explained the rationale behind the acquisition, saying, “Our intentions when we buy Warner Bros. will be to continue to release Warner Bros. studio movies in theaters with the traditional windows.”
He noted that Warner Bros.’ experience in theatrical distribution will be a major asset to Netflix, saying, “Our library only extends back a decade, whereas Warner Bros. stretches back a hundred years. They know a lot about things we haven’t ever done, like theatrical distribution.”
