Netflix is developing a reboot of the beloved romantic comedy 13 Going on 30, with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman set to lead the new version.
The project also brings back original star Jennifer Garner, who will serve as an executive producer, adding a layer of continuity to the reimagining. Direction will be handled by Brett Haley, who reunites with Bader following their previous collaboration on rom-com People We Meet on Vacation, while the screenplay is written by Hannah Marks with revisions by Flora Greeson.
Although specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the original film’s premise, about a teenage girl who suddenly finds herself living as her 30-year-old self, remains one of the most iconic setups in the rom-com genre. With its enduring popularity and cultural impact, the 13 Going on 30 reboot aims to reinterpret the story for a new generation, blending nostalgia with a contemporary perspective.
Brett Haley said: “13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer. I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”
The director added: “Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful. I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after People We Meet on Vacation. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
