After her Oscar win for Anora, Mikey Madison is now in talks to lead A24’s upcoming film, The Masque of the Red Death, a bold new take on Edgar Allan Poe’s classic short story. The film will be directed by the acclaimed director Charlie Polinger.
Mikey Madison steps in to replace Sydney Sweeney, who, sources say, exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Polinger will also executive produce the film alongside Lucy McKendrick, and A24 has secured worldwide distribution rights.
Polinger is currently working on The Plague, an indie film starring Joel Edgerton. Meanwhile, Madison will next appear in Reptilia with Kirsten Dunst, directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría (Monos).
Madison, previously seen in Scream 5 and Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has been in high demand following her breakout performance in Anora. It is also said that she recently turned down a role in the upcoming, untitled Star Wars film from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.
