The sequel to KPop Demon Hunters has been officially announced, with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning.
The original film has surpassed 500 million views on Netflix, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the song “Golden” won a Grammy. It also received two Oscar nominations: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
The film follows K-pop superstars HUNTR/X, who, when not performing sold-out stadium shows, use their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from supernatural threats. Their new rivals are Saja Boys, a boy band in disguise as demons.
The directors describe the characters as “family” and say they will continue to expand the story while pushing the boundaries of music, animation, and storytelling.
The KPop Demon Hunters sequel will be produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation as part of Kang and Appelhans’ multi-year writing and directing deal with Netflix.
