Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things is getting ready to say goodbye with its highly anticipated fifth and final season. The new season is expected to bring the main story to an epic conclusion, and the first official trailer has just been released.
After nearly a three-year wait, Stranger Things returns with Season 5, which will take place in the fall of 1987. The trailer reveals that Vecna is back, and the threat looming over Hawkins is deadlier than ever. Will’s connection to the Upside Down becomes even more central in this final chapter, marking a major turning point in the story.
The extended trailer hints that the Upside Down is on the verge of consuming Hawkins completely, and that every character will play an active role in this final supernatural battle. Will’s psychic link with Vecna is expected to be key in the fight to come.
Netflix has announced that the final season will be released in three parts: the first four episodes will drop on November 26, the next three on December 25, and the final episode will premiere on December 31. Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things first premiered in 2016 and is now heading toward its grand finale.
In a surprise return, director Frank Darabont, best known for The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, is coming out of retirement to direct two episodes of Season 5 (Episodes 3 and 5).

While the main story is coming to an end, the Stranger Things universe will live on through spin-offs. An animated project titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 was recently announced. The series, set in 1985, will tell new stories from the Stranger Things world in an anthology format, exploring different events in Hawkins.
