New details about DC Studios’ upcoming projects, which will follow the new Superman movie, have been revealed. Along with the new casting announcement, DC Studios co-president James Gunn has also shared insights into the future direction of the new DC Universe and The Batman 2.
Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries has been confirmed as the lead in DC Studios’ new Clayface film, with both the production schedule and release date announced. Known for his roles in Suspicion, White Lines, and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, Harries will portray Clayface, one of Batman’s iconic villains.
The casting decision surprised fans, as many expected an A-list actor for the role. Gunn commented on the subject:
“After a long and incredibly exhaustive search, we finally have our DCU Clayface in Tom Rhys Harries. Both Matt Reeves and I were just blown away by this guy, and can’t wait for you to see this film, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan.”
Clayface is set to blend the psychological realism and body horror genres. With a budget of approximately $40 million, the movie will differ from the classic superhero stories with the acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass) as the screenwriter. Furthermore, it is expected that the movie will take us to Clayface’s origins and will be released as R-rated.
The production of the movie begins on October 1, 2025, and it will premiere in theaters on September 11, 2026.
