Daniel Day-Lewis is making a long-awaited comeback to the big screen. The three-time Oscar winner, who announced his retirement after Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, is returning with a new film titled Anemone. The first trailer has just been released.
Anemone also marks the feature film directorial debut of Daniel Day-Lewis’s son, Ronan Day-Lewis. The 27-year-old previously directed two short films, but this is his first feature. Adding to the excitement, the screenplay was co-written by father and son. The project is produced by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B.
Set in late 1980s Yorkshire, the film explores a politically charged story about two paramilitary brothers who, two decades earlier, fought to keep Northern Ireland within the United Kingdom. Against this backdrop, Anemone delves into the complex bonds between brothers, fathers, and sons in a turbulent political climate.
Daniel Day-Lewis takes on the role of Ray Stoker, starring alongside BAFTA winner Sean Bean and acclaimed actress Samantha Morton.
While it remains uncertain whether Day-Lewis will pursue additional projects, Anemone will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival this October.
