Bad Bunny is starring in the historical drama Porto Rico, marking his first leading role.
Bad Bunny previously acted alongside Brad Pitt in Bullet Train and also in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing.
The new film is described as an “epic Caribbean western” inspired by the origins of Puerto Rico and a narrative drawn from true events. Aim is to portray Puerto Rico’s history with intensity and honesty.
It is directed and co-written by Grammy-winning Puerto Rican rapper René Pérez Joglar (Residente), alongside Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris.
“I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” Pérez Joglar said. “This film is a reaffirmation of who we are, told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”
Edward Norton, Javier Bardem, and Viggo Mortensen co-star in the film, with Alejandro González Iñárritu serving as executive producer. The project is produced by 1868 Studios, Live Nation Studios, and Class 5 Films.
