Sky has commissioned a contemporary Nordic noir series based on the first book in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The eight-episode series will follow journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander as they investigate a crime that is more than 40 years old.

The project is described as a contemporary reboot and aims to establish strong thematic bonds with the present day. Produced by Left Bank Pictures, the series will be written by Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna.

Filming is set to begin in Lithuania, with no release date announced yet.
