BluTV, Turkey’s local online video platform, is adding The Sympathiser, one of the most popular series worldwide, to its library. The series is directed by Park Chan-Wook, director of The Handmaiden and Oldboy, and starring Robert Downey Jr. and Hoa Xuande.
Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, The Sympathiser tells the story of the struggle of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy in the last days of the Vietnam War.
ESPIONAGE THRILLER AND INTERCULTURAL SATIRE
The series follows the struggle of a man who, while living in a community of South Vietnamese refugees, begins secretly spying on the community and is conflicted between his loyalty and his new life. The Sympathiser is described as an espionage thriller and intercultural satire.
Along with Xuande and Downey Jr., the cast of the series also includes Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, Alan Trong, Vy Le, Ky Duyen and Sandra Oh.
