Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the Yellowstone universe, has officially joined the upcoming Tulsa King spin-off as writer, taking full creative control of the new series.

Previously titled Nola King, the project has undergone both a name and location change. Now called Frisco King, the series shifts its setting from New Orleans to Texas, signaling a fresh backdrop for the expanding crime saga.

The original Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (played by Sylvester Stallone), who is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma after serving a 25-year prison sentence. Sent away by his crime family, Dwight builds a new criminal empire from scratch, assembling an unlikely crew while navigating rival gangs, federal scrutiny and shifting loyalties. The series blends organized crime tension with themes of reinvention and second chances.

The spin-off centers on Russell Lee Washington Jr., portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. The character was first introduced in season three of Tulsa King, initially arriving in Tulsa under orders from the New York-based Renzetti crime family to eliminate Dwight. Instead, Russell becomes inspired by what Dwight has built and begins reconsidering his own path, drawn to the possibilities of power and redemption.

Following the departure of original showrunner Dave Erickson due to scheduling conflicts, Sheridan will write the entire eight-episode first season of Frisco King. Production is set to begin in Texas at the end of March.

Sheridan, Jackson and Stallone will also serve as executive producers on the series, which will stream on Paramount+, further expanding the growing Tulsa King crime universe.
