Özge Özpirinçci, one of the leading actresses of Show TV’s new series I Am Mother (Sandık Kokusu), which aired its first episode and attracted a lot of attention, talked about her character and the aspects of the project that appealed to her.

Produced by O3 Medya, written by Melis Civelek and Zeynep Gür, written by Melis Civelek and Zeynep Gür, creative consultancy by Zeynep Günay, and Nezaket Coşkun in the director’s chair, I Am Mother is being aired on Show TV on Wednesdays.

THE MUM OF A DAUGHTER’S INTEREST IN MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIPS

Stating that the project was brought to her by Saner Ayar and Zeynep Günay, the actress explained what impressed her the most as follows: “I liked the story of a mother and daughter and the fact that it prefers to deal with the problems in this mother-daughter relationship. Because right now I am also the mother of a new daughter, so it is a relationship that I am really curious about.

The excitement of the script and the story was the biggest attracting factor at first. Later, when we sat down and talked, when everything else was OK for me, I accepted the project and as the days went by, I said ‘I’m glad I did’. Whether it was the casting work or the stage work we did with our actors and directors beforehand, it added a lot to me.”

‘THE SET IS VERY FUN’

Özpirinçci said the following about the shooting processes of the series: “After shooting in Adana for two weeks, we came to Istanbul and we continue here. The set is very fun.

I feel that the more heavy drama you shoot, the more fun the set should be, because the two need to balance each other for me. Otherwise, I think there will always be a heavy atmosphere on the set. The whole team gets along very well on the set. I hope we will continue this way until the end of the season.

‘FIRST THE SCRIPT’

The actress summarised what made her accept this project and what stands out in the story as follows: “I can say that the biggest thing that made me accept this story is the script. For me, this is actually the case with all projects. First the script. If I believe in the script, if I like it, if I believe that I can portray the character, the rest is often easily solved.

In general, I was excited to play a character different from the socio-economic status of the characters I play on television, but at the same time to be able to show it as a three-dimensional character.

In addition to all these, it is very exciting for me to work with names such as Zeynep Günay, Nezaket Coşkun, Melis Civelek, Zeynep Gür.”

‘WORKING AGAIN WITH THE PEOPLE I USED TO WORK BEFORE…’

Ulaş Hoca is also our second director. We had worked with him 10 years ago. Working again with the people I used to work with allows me to test myself professionally. Where was I 10 years ago, what did I do, what have I gained in the past 10 years… It is very enjoyable to see these through the eyes of the same people.

And of course, playing mother and daughter with Demet Akbağ… What more do I want.”

In addition to Özge Özpirinçci, the cast of I Am Mother includes names such as Demet Akbağ, Metin Akdülger and Necip Memili.
