Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV is set to unveil two new scripted series at Series Mania this month: the thriller The Right to Judge and the romantic suspense drama Escape.

The Right to Judge begins when former school friends reunite 22 years later and open a time capsule, discovering a yearbook in which the faces of a group of bullies have been blacked out. As the friends start dying one by one, a former bully teams up with a journalist to find the killer. The series stars Shotaro Mamiya and Yuko Araki.

Escape follows an heiress who is kidnapped on her 20th birthday. Instead of returning to her controlling father, she chooses to escape alongside her captor, forging her own path. The series stars Hiyori Sakurada and Hayato Sano.

Nippon TV aims to reach a global audience with these projects and will be represented at the festival by Shinji Enari, head of studio strategy, and Masanori Kobayashi, head of global strategy. The company is looking to make an impact in the global market with its thriller and romantic suspense series.
