Netflix has greenlit a sci-fi thriller film based on the AfterShock Comics book Astronaut Down.
The project is being developed in partnership with AfterShock Media and Esmail Corp, with screenwriter F. Scott Frazier (XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Double Blind) on board.
The original book was written by James Patrick, with illustrations by Spanish artist Rubine.
Astronaut Down follows an astronaut sent into alternate realities on a desperate mission to save Earth from a catastrophic crisis. The mission goes awry, testing the astronaut’s training and humanity under extreme circumstances.
Producers include Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. AfterShock Media CEO Jon Kramer praised Frazier’s script and Patrick’s original vision, highlighting the story’s global appeal.
Netflix is overseeing the project with its in-house team, while Patrick serves as a creative consultant.
