Turkish singer-songwriter and composer Murat Evgin has added a new chapter to his international career. After his earlier work for Netflix U.S., he now appears on Apple TV+, and this time as a performer. For the newly released series Pluribus, Murat Evgin recorded a Turkish version of John Lennon’s iconic song “Nobody Told Me.” His reinterpretation closes the show’s second episode and was released worldwide on digital platforms under the Sony Music U.S. label.
Murat Evgin says this unexpected collaboration started online:
“I had a video call with Thomas Golubic, the music supervisor behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He had listened to some of the music I’d made for Turkish dramas and really liked them. Then he mentioned a new show he was working on. At that point, even the title was still a secret.”
The production was looking for a version of a well-known song that would feel both universal and local, something that would connect with audiences around the world but still carry a distinct color. From the list he was given, Murat Evgin chose Lennon’s Nobody Told Me, translated it into Turkish, and created a new arrangement using traditional instruments.

The Turkish rendition quickly impressed Golubic and Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad.
“I stayed true to the soul of the song,” Evgin explains, “but I added Turkish instruments, kanun, cümbüş, darbuka, and def. When Thomas and Vince said they loved it, I knew this was something special.”
For Evgin, a lifelong Beatles fan, singing a John Lennon song in Turkish for a Hollywood series was a surreal experience.
“I grew up with The Beatles,” he says. “But I never thought I’d one day be performing a Lennon song in Turkish for an American show.”
Released the same day Pluribus premiered on Apple TV+, Murat Evgin’s version became available worldwide through Sony Music U.S., marking both a creative and emotional milestone in his career. Known for composing many hit TV soundtracks in Türkiye and beyond, Evgin had previously written music for Netflix’s Myths & Monsters.
“Back then, I was working as a composer,” he adds. “This time, I’m stepping into the spotlight as a singer, and that makes it even more exciting.”
He ends the conversation with a line from Lennon himself:
“Just like Lennon said, Life is what happens to us while we’re busy making other plans.”
